The Proud Crane: A simple English story for kids

Once upon a time, a tall white crane lived near the big blue sea. He loved to show off! Every time he saw the sea animals, he laughed at them. “Haha! I can fly, and you can only swim!” he said.
One day, the crane puffed out his chest and gave a lecture: “I can fly anywhere in the whole world!” He boasted. “I see everything! But all you know is the water.” The sea animals just listened quietly.

“If anything bad happens, I can just fly away!” said the crane happily. “You can never leave the sea!” The crane kept talking and talking, feeling very proud.
Suddenly, the sky turned dark! A big, noisy storm was coming! Whoosh! The fish, crabs, and turtles quickly swam deep, deep down into the sea, where it was safe for them.

The wind blew too hard for the crane to fly. He could not flap his wings at all. Being scared and cold, he had to run here and there and try to find a safe place.

Scared and cold, he had to hide under a big rock all night long.
The next morning, the sun came out. The sea animals swam up to see the crane. The crane bowed his head and felt very sorry. From that day on, he was kind and never laughed at anyone again! End.
