Jungle Story: The lesson of hard work

Story of the jungle friends
In the heart of the jungle lived two best friends. Sammy the Squirrel and Milu the Monkey. Sammy was always busy, scurrying up and down trees to collect crunchy acorns. Milu loved to relax, swinging slowly on the branches and napping in the sun. Still, whenever they met played games and shared yummy foods.
One day, the Jungle School announced a big Running Competition for all the young animals. Everyone was excited! The winner would get a golden trophy and a crown of flowers.

Next day, at home Milu’s mother said, "Milu, you should go to the field and practice running every day if you want to win." Milu said, ''Ok, let me ask Sammy.''

Milu went to his friend Sammy and asked, "Sammy, will you come practice running with me?"
Sammy shook his head and said "I’m sorry, Milu, but I have so much work to do! I have to carry these heavy acorns to my nest all day long." Milu thought, "If Sammy isn't practising, I don't need to practice either!" So, Milu went back to his nap.

The big day arrived! All the animals lined up at the start. The sports teacher, Mr Bear shouted, Ready, set, GO! The animals dashed forward. Milu tried to run fast, but he could not run very fast. His legs felt tired and heavy very quickly.

Suddenly, someone zoomed past everyone like a little grey blur. It was Sammy! He crossed the finish line first and won the gold trophy. Milu came in last. He felt very upset and a little bit jealous.

Mr Bear saw Milu’s sad face. He sat Milu down and said, "Do you know why Sammy won? Even though he didn't go to the track, he was 'practising' all day by carrying heavy acorns and climbing trees. Milu realized that while he was resting, Sammy was getting stronger. The Bear told him, "We should always be happy when our friends win."

Milu smiled, gave Sammy a big hug, and promised to work hard next time.

The big lessons:
Work is practice: Every day, being active makes you strong.
Be a good friend: Always cheer for your friends, even if you don't win.
No shortcuts: If you want to be the winner, you have to put in the effort!
